Favourite Shirt

There's further explanation on why I chose Leeds United as my first team at Billy Bremner - and the No. 4 shirt.

Swift Ely On(-line)

I turned up a new link to Bob's 70-71 pages at ELY ON-LINE - FOOTBALL FOCUS

This is the review that Johnny Swift very kindly gives Bob's 70-71 pages.

...and from the Green Un

   Stop reading this (but only after you've read all the Green Un), switch on your PC and have a look at this site;
http://ds.dial.pipex.com/bob.dunning/boband.htm It's a whole site devoted to the 1970-71 season and an ideal place to wallow in nostalgia. For some reason this particular season has become regarded as a 'Golden Age Of Football' and I have a theory why this should be the case. Following on from the Mexico World Cup as it did, I wonder if the hordes of children that faithfully collected all the bubblegum cards, Texaco Coins and followed the tournament, seriously began to watch First Division football in the season that followed. I know I did. It has been argued that England's achievements in Italia 90 (Gazza's tears and Pavarotti) helped pave the way to the formation of the Premier League and the explosion of merchandising, Sky football and increasing crowds. The same thing happened two decades before when shorts were tighter and Gordon Banks pulled off 'that' save against Pele. This site is pure escapism and I love it; Gary Sprake, Ralph Coates, David Webb; they're all here...pictures, interviews and we find out where they are now. Nine out of ten.

It was as a curly haired youth (oh yes!) that I gambolled up and down the playing fields of East Cambridgeshire pretending to be Eddie Gray at around the time of that 1970 -71 season. Today's children are far better served by TV, the media and the organisation of the youth game. (Edit)

14 July 2000

See the picture that won Eddie Gray his Special Bob Award in 1999-2000, at World Exclusive.

6 July 2000

There is now a picture of the West Bromwich Albion team from the 1970 League Cup Final programme.

Denis Howell's chapter about the referring of the 1966 World Cup Final has now been added.
