(*) in this decisive match Enrico Albertosi saved a penalty against Juventus forward Helmut Haller.
It would be a legendary save but referee, Mr. Lo Bello, decided that penalty must be repeated.
Anastasi scored the second chance , but Cagliari egalised with another penalty and won the same his "scudetto".

Story and Skills

Enrico Albertosi was, may be, the best Italian goalkeeper in the sixties.

He had a particular style, he was acrobatic and spectacular.

He was perfect on the box and his saves were always in perfect style. Albertosi had an exceptionally fast reaction time and incredible physical strength.

During the famous match Italy vs West Germany in 1970, he makes an incredible series of saves, and he was "nicknamed" the "Azteca's hero".

He had a poor international career, but with clubs he won the Cup Winners' Cup in 1961 with Fiorentina against Glasgow Rangers and lost the final the year after against Atletico Madrid.

Albertosi was probably the most muscular Italian goalkeeper ever, but his character and some intolerance to the strict discipline required by some trainers, reduced his skills.

Many Italian goalkeepers less skilled than Albertosi, played for better clubs and , played more international matches and than him.

Coaching and Beyond:

Enrico Albertosi dosen't have experience as a manager or coach in professional football.

He had seriuos troubles on 1980 during the scandal of "Totonero" (he was accused of influencing the result of some games on which he had a bet).

Albertosi was condemned and suspended for 4 years (he was 41 years old...), then, as a result of the amnesty for the World Cup won on 1982, he returned to play in fourth division (C-2), at Elpidiense, near Ancona, when he was 43 years old.

Now Enrico Albertosi lives in Florence, and he's an appreciated guest and football pundit on regional television.

Sometimes he plays still friendly matches for benefits and recently participated in the replay-match of Italy-West Germany '70 .
