News From the Hood

As chance would have it I stumbled across these unrelated items with something in common

1) Mount Hood

Thanks once again to Kilian McCaffrey who writes ...

Mount Hood

I attach a photo of the famous Mt Hood here in Oregon for your pleasure. Hopefully we will be on top of a mountain in Milan by the end of Wednesday night.

Commenting on Vidulka's 4 goals against Liverpool in Leeds United's 4-3 victory last Saturday Kilian writes ...

They say the last player to score 4 in one game for Leeds was Peter Lorimer over 30 years ago. What say they in Yorkshire about Viduka?

Well I've since checked and Allan Clarke has done it twice since Peter did it in 1967 in the 9-0 UEFA Cup victory against Sporta Luxemborg.

In 1970 Allan got 4 in a 6-0 score against Sutton United in the FA Cup, and in in 1971 (during the 70-71 season itself) he got all 4 in a 4-0 victory against Burnley in the (old) Division One.

2) HMS Hood

Reading my guestbook as I do when I remember I visited Ted Bates's site Ted Bates' Royal Navy Service. Ted came to the site due to his namesake who was the Southampton manager in 1970-71 season. Ted linked to the definitive site for the HMS Hood. I've a 1920s photograph of my grandfather in full naval gear and an HMS Hood hat. The pictures are from the site at HMS Hood Association- Battle Cruiser Hood

Another of the Guestbook entries was from Monty P who pointed out that there is a site on the Net which presently displays every one of the cards from the 1970-71 FKS World of Soccer Stars Album, which is the star of this site. See British Football Cards Collector's Gallery

4) Robin Hood
