    11 February 2004 Michael's goal in a 2-1 home Premiership victory against Manchester City ends a spell which equalled the longest goal-barren period of his career. Michael had failed to score in any of 9 first team matches stretching back to his games prior to injury in November 2003. The only other time he had 9 consecutive first team games without a goal was from September to November 1997, in the second season of his career.

    plays for England against Portugal in Faro. The score was 1-1.

    1 June Michael plays for England in a friendly versus Japan at the City of Manchester Stadium the score is 1-1 aned Michael scores England's goal - which now pulls him ahead of Geoff Hurst as 11th on the list of England's all time highest goalscorers.
    5 June Michael plays in England friendly against Iceland at the City of Manchester Stadium.
    13 JuneMichael plays in England's Euro 2004 match against France in Lisbon, which ends 2-1 to France.
    17 June Michael plays in England's second match of the Euro 2004 campaign, a 3-0 victory against Swizerland in Coimbra.
    21 June The final group match in Euro 2004 sees England qualify in second place with a 4-2 win against Croatia in Lisbon. This is only the third time in his England career that he has gone 4 games without a goal - he has never gone 5 games.
    24 June Michael scores as England played theEuro 2004 host nation, Portugal, in Lisbon in the quarter-final. Portugal win on penalties after a 2-2 draw after extra time. Michael scored his penalty! Michael has now played 60 games for England and scored 26 goals, which finally takes him into the Top Ten of English Highest goalscorers, equal with Bryan Robson.
    18 August Michael scores the second goal in the 50th minute of England's 3-0 victory versus Ukraine. The match was a friendly played at St James' Park in Newcastle. It is Michael's 26th goal for England. Michael is now the equal ninth highest goalscorer for England with David Platt.

  • Autumn 2004
    4 September
    plays for England in a World Cup qualifier away to Austria in Vienna. which ends in a 2-2 draw.
    8 September plays a World Cup qualifier away to Poland. England win the match 2-1. Michael was booked in the match.
    9 October plays for England in a World Cup qualifier home to Wales at Old Trafford in Manchester. England win 2-0.
    13 October plays for England in a World Cup qualifier away to
    Azerbaijan in Baku. England win 1-0. Michael is England captain in the absence of David Beckham, and scored England's only goal in the 22nd minute. This is Michael's 27th goal and raises him to equal 8th with Steve Bloomer in the all time list of highest goalscorers for England. Michael has captained England 7 times now, and so far remains unbeaten in these games.
    17 November plays for England in a 'friendly' away to
    Spain in Bernabeu Stadium in Madrid. England lose 1-0.

    12 October -plays for England in the World Cup qualifier v poland at Old Trafford. England win 2-1, and Michael scores his 33rd goal.
    12 November - plays for England in an international friendly v Argentina in Geneva, Switzerland. England win 3-2 thanks to 2 very late goals from Michael, which takes his tally to 35.

    25 May
    plays for England B in an effort to get match fitness prior to the World Cup tournament. Played at Reading's Madejski Stadium v Belarus B was lost 2-1.
    30 May play in England's friendly v Hungary at Old Trafford. The final score was 3-1 to England.

  • Summer 2006: Includes

    3 June plays in England's friendly v Jamaica and ended as a 6-0 victory at Old Trafford in Manchester. Michael scored his 36th goal for England to make it 4-0 after just 32 minutes.
    10 June plays in England's opening game of the World Cup tournament v Paraguay at the Commerzbank-Arena, Frankfurt, Germany. It ends as a 1-0 victory to England.
    15 June plays in England's second group game of the World Cup tournament v Trinadad and Tobago at Frankenstadion, Nürnberg, Germany. It ends as a 2-0 victory to England.
    20 June plays in England's third group game of the World Cup tournament v Sweden RheinEnergiestadion, Cologne. It ends as a 2-2 draw. Michael falls down injured in just the 4th minute of the game, and is certain to not only miss the rest of the tournament, but much of next season also.
    25 June Michael is currently seen in television adverts for Domino's Pizza and Asda, and is in every magazine in the country advertising Umbro, Accurist and Northern Rock.
