Bill Dodgin Junior (Fulham manager)
Bill has been newly
added to these pages this month. Sadly Bill died in June.
This is how FUlham's official website it:
Bill Dodgin Jnr. the former Fulham player and manager
has died at the age of 68 after a long illness.
Bill, a member of a famous footballing family, was
born at Wardley on 4 November, 1931. His
professional football career both as player and
manager, which began as a full-back with Fulham away
at Preston in November 1951, spanned over 30 years.
He played 36 games with Fulham, before moving on to
Arsenal where he was to remain for eight seasons. He
made over 200 appearances for the Gunners, at
full-back or centre-half and captained England in the
first ever under-23 International against Italy in
1954.
In March 1961 he returned to the Cottage and featured
in Fulham's 1962 Cup semi-final side. In
November 1962 he broke his leg at Villa Park and
played in only seven more games before hanging up his
boots.
Ironically his final appearance was in a 4 -1
home defeat by Arsenal.
After coaching spells with Millwall and QPR during
which time QPR
were to win the League Cup in a memorable, Wembley
encounter with West Bromwich Albion he returned to
Fulham as manager in 1968. During his managerial
career he also managed Northampton, Brentford,
Brighton and Woking.
Fulham FC send its deepest sympathy to Bill's family,
wife Jacqui, his daughter, three sons and grandson.
