The 50 Best FA Cup Final Goals

Video distributed by Pegasus

Bob Rating : BBBB

Very special thanks to Bryan Diggle for bringing this tape to my attention.

This budget priced video available from 'Poundstretcher' is a MUST buy. It is packed with Bob's 70-71 players I haven't seen in years talking about their favourite Cup Final goals. Jimmy Greenhoff (Stoke City), Paul Reaney (Leeds United), Tommy Smith, Peter Thompson (Liverpool), Denis Law, Norman Hunter - are just some of the heroes who give their bit.

The format is a straight forward countdown from 50 to 1 of the ' best' goals in Cup Finals since the Fifties. Quite who nominated them such is not made clear, but there's nothing too controversial about the order.

The only frustrating thing I found was they would show the goal discuss it with a player from the match, but not show it again to back up what the player said ! Secretly, I believe that's so that no-one can proove that the player's actually commented on another match in another year and got them a bit mixed upin their dotage.

Leeds United's only ever winning goal -Allan Clarke's in 1972 - made no.12, which helped my appreciation of the show, and Charlie George's classic goal from the 70-71 season itself made no.9 which qualified the video for an extra 'B' in the Bob Rating !

Charlie George was interviewed and looked suspiciously like David Carradine with glasses and a London accent..

Grasshopper he say,' for 2-99 it is a bargain buy you should not miss', and you can learn this lesson without wandering around a US dessert to discover the truth of the teaching.

Room 101

Bob Rating: B

Well, as with last month (see January 2001 Reviews) Room 101 had a Bob 70-71 reference this month. The 18 February 2001 episode (which was actually a repeat) with Lorraine Kelly began with her wanting to put Bobby Charlton into Room 101 as one of her greatest hates.

A clip of sir Bobby in his playing days was shown, then in the explanation that followed, it turned out it was not Bobby she hated but men with Bobby Charlton style-wrap overs ! After several predictable baldist jokes Bobby was dropped in.
