1 England beat Bulgaria 1-0 in Sofia with a goal scored by Frank Worthington in the 44th minute. Scotland are beaten 2-1 at Bruges by Belgium. Jim Holton sustains a knee injury and couldn't play in the match. He is now doubtful for the World Cup finals. . . There is also trouble for Scotland on the commercial front.
Apparently, the agent, Mr Bill Bain, who deals with the players' 'perks pool', has been appointed by the SF A, and 10 per cent of the income will go to the Association.
The players protest against this 'novel idea' and will fight it out with Bain. Skipper Bremner says, 'We shall have just one more meeting with him in Oslo, but we do not want to see him in W. Germany'.

2 Trouble for some British players on tour. Kevin Keegan has a bust- up with the Yugoslav police at Belgrade Airport, is taken into custody and lat er released.
Billy Bremner and Jimmy Johnstone miss the curfew at Oslo and Willie Ormond contacts the Scottish FA. It is decided that the two culprits won't be sent home, but merely warned as to their future conduct.

3 The Yugoslav authorities are not pressing charges against Keegan. Bremner will captain Scotland against Norway on Wednesday.

4 Ron Saunders is the new Aston Villa manager.

5 England draw their last tour game, 2-2, against Yugoslavia. The balance sheet since Joe Mercer took over as caretaker manager is three wins, three draws, and one defeat. Goals for 9, against 7.

6 Scotland beat Norway 2-1 at Oslo - their last warm-up game for the World Cup.
Jordan and Dalglish get the goals in a match described as 'untidy' and 'rather disappointing' . . . 16 English clubs are taking part in the Texaco Cup. The new format introduces mini-Leagues, and the early games will be played before the start of the season. The four group winners will be joined by four Scottish clubs in the later 'knock-out' stages of the tournament.

7 Bobby Parker (Coventry) signs for Carlisle for a 60,000 pounds transfer fee. At the League's AGM, the clubs refuse - once again - the TV package deal, and it seems that the television companies might be forced to negotiate fees on a week-by-week basis with the clubs involved in the matches to be screened. . . All four clubs seeking re-election are voted back, as the several non-League teams collect and split a sizeable number of votes. . . Lord Westwood of Newcastle is the new President of the Football League, taking over from Len Shipman, who has resigned for health reasons.

3 , Chelsea pays a club record 225,000 pounds for David Hay of Celtic. . . Bobby Collins is the new manager of Huddersfield . . . A shake-up at board level at AFC Bournemouth. Five directors resign with Harry Stacey reverting to the job of Secretary. . . Holland beat Brazil 2-0 (Neeskens, Cruyff) and W. Germany defeat Poland 1-0 (Milller) in virtual World Cup semi-finals.

4 Don Revie is appointed the new England team manager in succession to Sir Alf Ramsey.

7 W. Germany beat Holland 2-1 in the World Cup Final. Neeskens scores from a penalty in the first minute. Breitner equalizes with a spot-kick, and Milller scores the winning goal before half-time. Jack Taylor (Wolverhampton) is the referee.

9 Stoke pay 200,000 for Geoff Salmons of Sheffield U .

12 Terry Paine moves to Hereford as a 'player/coach. . . Dramatic announcement at Anfield-Bill Shankly retires because he feels the strain of being involved in top class football. His last deal-200,000 pounds for Ray Kennedy (Arsenal).

15 Arsenal buy Brian Kidd, 110,000 pounds, as a replacement for Kennedy. . . Tottenham sign Alfie Conn.

16 Orient announce plans for a new stand and 2,200,000 pounds sports and office complex next to their Brisbane Road ground.

17 Leicester grant Peter Shilton's transfer request. . . The League Chairmen accept the TV contract for a three-year period. The voting is 36 in favour, 13 against.

19 'Pop' Robson joins Sunderland from West Ham for 145,000 pounds . . . Nottingham F. put top striker Duncan McKenzie on the transfer list after contract negotiations reach deadlock.

20 Brian Clough leaves Brighton to become the new Leeds manager. He accepts a five-year contract worth a reported 20,000 pounds per year. His former assistant, Peter Taylor, stays at Brighton as the new boss.

22 Jeff Astle, the former England striker, joins Southern League Club Dunstable . . . Derek Possee signs for Orient for 50,000 pounds . . . Mike Bamber, the Brighton chairman, accuses the Leeds directors of 'going-back' ona gentleman's agreement concerning compensation for Brian Clough's services.

24 Stoke instal moats at their Victoria ground.

26 George Best signs to play in two pre-season friendlies for Southern League Dunstable . . . Bob Paisley is appointed the new manager of Liverpool. The 54-year-old former assistant to Bill Shankly has been with the club since 1939 . . . Sunderland defender David Young signs for Charlton for 20,000 pounds.

29 Leeds reject Brighton's claim that 75,000 pounds compensation was agreed for Clough . . .
Luton sign Adrian Alston, the Australian World Cup striker.

30 Leeds trainer/coach Les Cocker quits the club to become No.2 to Don Revie at the Football Association. Cocker has been with Leeds since 1961, and was trainer to the England squad under Sir Alf Ramsey.

31 Tony Byme, the Southampton and Eire defender, joins Hereford for 18,000 pounds.
New manager John Sillett earlier signed veteran Terry Paine and Fred Kemp from the same club.
