Thirty Six : Peppermint Ridge Retreat

This may not be a year-round residence – but if you go and stay here, chances are you’ll wish it were. This amazing building high up on Woodbridge Hill has incredible views over Peppermint Bay and Bruny Island. The owners built it with their bare hands out of an imaginative mix of strawbale, stone, galvanised iron and recycled timber. There are soaring 5m high windows to take in the views, and the main bedroom is a cute mezzanine tucked away under the eaves, so you can lie in bed and watch boats slip down the Channel, miles below.
